I have been interested in clay sculpture for a long time. I finally bought some clay, and some tools. Months later, I gave it a try. I had no idea how to start. I want to make Gnomes for my garden. My daughter gave me a suggestion. She told me to make 2 pinch pots and combine them to make a hollow ball. Then work from that.
This Gnome isn’t finished, though he does have a name. I named him Clayton, because he is made of clay. I put him in a plastic bag to keep him from drying out. That way, I can make a few adjustments if I feel the need after letting him sit overnight. Once I’m happy with how he looks, I will paint him. When he is dry, he will be white and I think he’ll look nice with some color.
I am happy with my first attempt and will be making more. It will be interesting to see how, or if, I improve as I make others.
